Red Candle Games has made a name for itself with psychological horror games such as Detention Devotion. But its third title, Nine Sols sees it move into action. The Sekiro inspired title, first revealed in 2021 will be released on May 29, 2019.
Nine Sols features a unique art style that combines Eastern mythology, sci-fi (the Legend of Hou-Yi in particular) and Taoism. The players control Yi, a warrior cat who awakens after years in slumber to find New Kunlun a human city created by nine gods. It may seem like a utopia but there is a dark secret to New Kunlun. Yi sets out on a revengeful mission to eliminate all nine god-like rulers.
This 2D Metroidvania is a fast-paced game with a parrying system that was inspired directly by Sekiro Shadows Die Twice. Yi, in addition to his sword and divine bow, uses Taoist charms to explode enemies. The map is interconnected and features many NPCs, as well as secrets and boss fights.
