Dragon’s Dogma 2 – Review – On the Shoulders Of Giants 825706221773 It is not easy to create a new game after a 12 year old one. The original’s magic can be lost when modern technologies and design techniques are used to recreate it. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a game that never forgets its origins. It continues to amaze me, even after 50 hours. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a game that captures an adventure at its core. Dragon’s Dogma 2 doesn’t mind making you feel like a small person, even though you are the focal point of all the strife and conflict in the world. It reminds you at every turn that you are only a small part of the larger picture. It doesn’t take long to set the scene for political power struggles, and your role in them. It’s the main story that drives you to adventure, but only in the final 15 hours does it take some huge swings. [embedded content] Vernworth is the capital of the game. It’s bustling with merchants, affluent nobility and their extravagant homes and the well-guarded castle grounds. You will encounter NPCs who shop and give you quests or smaller tasks. The game promotes the idea that people go about their daily lives even if you are not around. The majority of the game involves traveling beyond the walls of the cities and testing yourself in the wilderness. Each adventure required that I think of new ways to prepare. The weight of my backpack was constantly in conflict with the camping and healing materials that I needed to stay alive. Dragon’s Dogma 2 made every decision I took outside the walls of the city a crucial one. You can choose from a variety of classes to combat with. There are many classes to choose from. I chose the Thief because it excels in scaling monsters such as Cyclops and Griffons. It’s clear that the slow and powerful magic of the Sorcerer is very different than the fast and deadly swords used by the Mystic spearhand. Dragon’s Dogma 2 encourages you to experiment, so you’re free to choose any of these Vocations, provided you’ve unlocked some questlines. The combat is long and brutal. You and your group may be on the last legs. You are at greater risk the further away you go from your village, and the longer that you remain out. It was a risk that I took, and it felt worth the effort, even if we died. You can create your own central character, customizing their appearance, their vocation, or even how they react to other players. Smart improvements have been made to the Pawn system to encourage you to try out other people’s Pawns. It was crucial to me that I kept changing my Pawns every time I found a Rift Stone in order to find the optimal party composition. I was able to quickly defeat monsters by having my team of fighters. This allowed me not to have a healer, and instead rely on potions made from scavenged fruits. The constant, small choices are what contribute to the larger concept of freedom in the game. Dragon’s Dogma 2 relies on your Pawns to defeat the horrifying foes. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a spectacle that delights its players. The performance of consoles will be severely affected by large battles. The frame rate dropped dramatically when I had several enemies and one of them casts a powerful spell. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a game with few map markers or icons. You often feel like you are playing detective, and leaning on the role-playing aspects. Having a eureka when discovering clues to a person’s location never gets boring. It was difficult to determine the exact location of an NPC. I was led on an undeserved and tedious wild goose hunt by this dilemma. Dragon’s Dogma 2 retains all the best features of its predecessor without compromising the essence of it. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a great game because of its emphasis on exploration and discovery. It also has a satisfying ending that I’ll remember for the remainder of the year.
