Amid Industry-Wide Layoffs, Capcom Is Increasing Starting Salary In Japan By More Than 25 Percent

Capcom announced it will increase its starting salary by over 25 percent in Japan amid industry-wide layoffs. This is on top of the 10,000 people laid off from the games industry in 2018. Capcom will also increase salaries for those already working at the company that produces Street Fighter 6 and Dragon’s Dogma 2.

This news is from videoGamesChronicle. It reports that “new graduate hires” earn around $1,560 a month. However, in Capcom 2025, this will increase to about $2000 per month. That represents a pay hike of more than 25%. VGC reports that existing salaries will increase by an average of more than 5 percent in Capcom’s fiscal year 2024. Current employees will receive a one-time payment as “an investment” in those who will support the future.

Capcom, in a press release, said it would continue to invest in human capital and acquire exceptional talent.

This publication reports that Capcom’s salaries increased by 30 percent between 2022 and 2023, with bonuses tied to the company’s overall performance. These bonuses are likely to have been great, considering Capcom’s stellar run, which includes Street Fighter 6, Resident Evil 1 (remake), Resident Evil Village, and many others.
