Unknown 9: Awakening has been silent since its reveal at Gamescom 2020, but today’s Xbox Partner Preview saw it reemerge with its first gameplay trailer and release window.
The game takes place within the popular sci-fi media franchise and features Haroona, a woman with mysterious abilities (played by The Witcher Anya Chalotra). The official website has the following description:You take on the role of Haroona, a truth-seeker with a special connection to another dimension called The Fold. This other plane contains powerful energy and lost knowledge that, if revealed, could usher in a new era of progress. If this wisdom is mishandled, it can lead to our demise.
Haroona is determined to right the wrongs from her past. However, she will be able to do more than just seek revenge. The fate of humanity is at stake, and Haroona’s ties to the Fold could be the key that secures our continued existence.
You will uncover long-forgotten secrets about our collective history and tap into the energy of the Fold, which will give you amazing skills known as Umbric powers that you can use to defeat anyone standing in your path.
Beware the Ascendants. They are a dangerous branch of a secret group known as the Leap Year Society. Beware of this group that claims it wants to use the Fold to better humanity, but do not be fooled. Even the best intentions can lead you to disaster.
This includes, as far as we can tell, telepathically blasting the enemy through a destructible environment and sucking the souls of people out of their bodies. Haroona is also able to pull enemies and control their minds. The game features parkour-style platforming in an Indian city.
Unknown 9 Awakening will be available this summer on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series Series X/S (PS4 and Xbox One), PC, and PlayStation 4.
